Exploring Extended Techniques Ideas

Darrin and I met online to discuss the overall shape of the piece and some ideas. He had emailed me a few days before with an attached video talking about how the effect I was looking for could be attained using a pencil as an “inciter”. He had had this idea watching videos of berimbau players online. This is an extended technique that are yet to be fully explored in the guitar repertoire.

I had already begun to work on the aleatoric part of the composition, and I thought the idea Darren brought would work well in the aleatoric part.

We finished the meeting understanding that he’d work the fingerings of the middle section and send them to me, and I would return to the aleatoric section to work more on that part.
