Writing this piece in collaboration with Darren Loughran was immensely successful, and indeed, the work would be utterly different without his cooperation.
The first ideas were drafted after a couple of listening sessions of pieces Darren was working on and his performances of other compositions for guitar.
After I came up with the concept of emulating the "berimbau" sound, Darren suggested using a pencil as an exciter. This idea informed the development of the two principal contrasting materials and the form of the composition.
Regarding the preparation for the performance, Darren Loughran is an excellent guitarist and did not need a lot of input. We exchanged a few messages and videos about different sections of the piece. Still, Darren was satisfied with how I notated the score and did not have any questions.
Plans for further collaboration:
We plan to record the piece and make a video of the performance.
